HIT-Aktivstall® - Species-appropriate horse management – with system

HIT-Aktivstall®
Species-appropriate horse husbandry with a system

Anyone who keeps horses knows: they need movement, social interaction, and regular small feed portions – just as they would in the wild. The HITAktivstall® is a housing system designed to meet these natural needs while making day-to-day yard management more efficient.

In an Aktivstall, horses live together as a group all year round and move freely between different functional areas:

  • spacious lying areas
  • feeding and watering zones (“marketplace”)
  • rolling areas
  • varied walkways and trails

This structure keeps horses active, promotes health and wellbeing – and reduces the workload for yard operators.

Key advantages at a glance

Four horses with different coat colors run one behind the other across a sandy area that looks like a riding arena or paddock. The animals move in the same direction and form a slight line. The background consists of a fence that borders the area and separates it from the trees in the background and the adjacent meadow. Group housing

For healthy social behaviour

Horses are herd animals. In the HITAktivstall®, they can interact with others at any time. This reduces stress, prevents behavioural issues, and ensures more balanced, content horses.

Feeding

Individual, automated

Computer-controlled feeding stations dispense concentrate, mineral feed and roughage in small portions throughout the day. Each horse receives exactly what it needs – without feed-related stress or overfeeding.

The transponder-controlled HIT hay dispenser EXCLUSIVE allows horses that are easy to feed in particular to be fed according to their needs.
A sandy path runs through the scene, along which several horses are walking. There are fences on the left and right sides of the path, behind which lie green meadows. Numerous trees can be seen in the background. Run and trail reinforcement with the non-slip and barefoot-friendly HIT active stable mat TOP CLEAN

More movement

through structured routes and trails

Different types of footing, long walkways and varied paths between feeding and resting areas encourage horses to stay active. This strengthens their cardiovascular system, muscles, and hoof health.

Comfortable resting areas

Generously designed, soft and dry lying zones provide ample space for resting and relaxation – essential for recovery and muscle development.

Two horses lie relaxed on a large area covered with light-colored sawdust bedding. Both animals are resting on their sides on the floor. The entire visible area consists of neatly distributed sawdust. Horses enjoy the soft and malleable HIT horse beds plus bedding.
A small round garden table with four chairs stands on a green lawn. To the right, part of a building can be seen, surrounded by a fence. In the background are stables with horse boxes and horses grazing. The scene appears calm and inviting, like a cozy place to linger near the horse stable. In the HIT active stable concept, a capital “F” stands for “leisure.”

Reduced daily workload

In the stable

Thanks to smart technology and automated processes, the daily labour requirement is significantly lower. This makes the system economical and allows horses to be cared for better with far less effort.

Who is the HIT-Aktivstall® suitable for?

  • Livery yards, riding schools and clubs, breeding and youngstock yards, private yards
  • Modernisation of existing open stables
  • Conversion from individual boxes to group housing
  • Conversion of cattle or pig housing into horse housing
  • Senior horse management on sport horse yards
  • New builds and conversions of existing facilities
  • Future-proofing in the context of generational change and business handovers
  • Improving traditional equestrian facilities after a change of ownership
  • Yards with too much labour demand in traditional systems and a shortage of skilled staff
Horse management inspired by nature

The concept is based on the behaviour of wild steppe horses: living in a stable herd, moving many kilometres each day, and taking in feed continuously. These principles are applied in the HITAktivstall® – resulting in healthy, content horses and smooth stable operations.

Practical experience

Many yard owners report that after switching to the active stable, they see:

  • healthier, more relaxed horses
  • fewer injuries and fewer days lost to illness
  • reduced labour requirements
  • greater appeal to horse owners
  • improved economic viability

Yard managers consistently say: “Since converting to the active stable, our horses are noticeably more balanced. Daily work is more enjoyable – and we can provide better care with less time.”

Whether for a completely new yard or the conversion of an existing facility – the HIT-Aktivstall® helps combine species-appropriate husbandry, horse health and economic efficiency in the best possible way.
